A Provisional Psychologist is an intern psychologist who is pursuing full registration with the Australia Health Practitioner Regular Agency. Provisional Psychologists are in their final 1-2 years of a six-year process to become a Registered Psychologist.
Provisional Psychologists are required to be supervised by an experienced, board-approved Registered Psychologist for the final 2 years before they receive full registration. This process is similar to an individual who is completing an apprenticeship. Supervision is managed via regular supervision meetings run by the Registered Psychologists with the Provisional Psychologists. When choosing to see a Provisional Psychologist, please be assured that your mental health concerns and treatment planning will be reviewed and explored through their supervision.
Here at Brave Psychology, we have been attentive in our selection process, choosing only interns that demonstrate a strong alignment with our values, and ethical standards. Our interns are passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of others and helping individuals navigate life's obstacles. Our selection ensures that our interns have engaged in training, and have professional and life experience in working with mental health concerns.
Benefits of choosing one of our Provisional Psychologist to support you:
Medicare rebates are not applicable to Provisional Psychologists. For this reason, our Provisional Psychologists incur a lower fee.
Our Provisional Psychologists can accept clients under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Private Health Funds may accept sessions by our Provisional Psychologists, although we have found that each Health Insurance company has their own guidelines on claims with Provisional Psychologists. Therefore, we recommend you contact your Private Health Fund prior to accepting an appointment.
